At Dark Water Ranch we got the eggs! We have chicken and duck eggs available to purchase on the farm. We have a large following for both, the chicken eggs have been a long time favorite but the duck eggs are top choice for the bakers.
Farm fresh eggs aren’t the same as grocery store eggs, they are better! We have several different breeds of chickens so our chicken eggs vary widely in size and color, each carton is different, it is surprise to lift the lid and see what you got!
Even the yolks have a variance in color depending on what that chicken has been eating. Some things the chicken consumes can have a drastic effect on the yolk color. Dark leafy greens and meat make for darker yolks. Flowers can make some startling bright colored yolks.
Duck eggs are richer, with more albumen, which makes cakes and other pastries fluffier, which is why they are popular for baking. They also have more Omega-3 fatty acids than chickens. Duck eggs often stays fresher longer, due to their thicker shell and people who cannot eat chicken eggs, due to allergies, can often eat duck eggs.
Duck eggs are also a favorite of paleo dieters, who seek high-fat foods. Partly due to the larger yolk, duck eggs are significantly higher in fat, cholesterol and proteins than chicken eggs. Duck eggs can be a great addition to any well-balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Remember you won't find duck eggs in a grocery store, just on the farm!
